Grabovac families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Imotski area. According to some sources they are from Mostar, Rama (north Herzegovina), Grabovice and Roskog polja, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Imotski area and in Middle Bosnia (Vares area). In Gornji Proložac in Imotski area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Grabovac.
Prevalence
About 970 people with faimily name Grabovac live in Croatia today, in 390 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 51 cities and 90 other places, mostly in Zagreb (175), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (140), Split (55), Rijeka (45), and in Zadar (35).
Outside Croatia
Family name Grabovac is present in 20 countries on four continents. The family name "Grabovac " is used by some 300 people in Germany , about 100 in the United States , and some 100 people in Austria.
