Grabar families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Varazdin area , rarely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Cakovec and Varazdin. In Vrbno in Lepoglava area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Grabar.
Prevalence
About 810 people with faimily name Grabar live in Croatia today, in 320 households. There were 820 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 37 cities and 94 other places, mostly in Cakovec (80), Zagreb (70), Vrbno in Lepoglava area (50), Rijeka (45), and in Varazdin (45).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1673 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
