About 10 people with faimily name Gergelj live in Croatia today, in 8 households. There were 20 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number halved. They are located in four Croatian counties, threee cities and 6 other places, mostly in Zagreb (<5), Slatina (<5), Bjelovar (<5), Darda in Osijek area (<5), and in Knezevi Vinogradi in Beli Manastir area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1932 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
