In Croatia, Gegić families are generally Croats (from Kosovo ), very rarely Serbs, and barely Albanians (from Zagreb ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Kosovo and in Janjevo, Kosovo.
Prevalence
About 450 people with faimily name Gegić live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number multiplied. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 18 cities and 38 other places, mostly in Zagreb (80), Veliki Bastaji in Daruvar area (55), Vocin in Slatina area (50), Prgomelje (40), and in Botinac in Bjelovar area (35).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
