Gaćina families are Croats and they are mostly from Sibenik area , Primosten and the Island of Mali Iz. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and Zadar.
Prevalence
About 320 people with faimily name Gaćina live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 50 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 23 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Zadar (65), Zagreb (60), Split (40), Sibenik (25), and in Rijeka (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1928 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
