Gaćeša families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats (from Cakovec ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Karlovac and in Knin area. In Gačeša Selo in Duga Resa area every fifth inhabitant had the family name Gaćeša.
Prevalence
About 290 people with faimily name Gaćeša live in Croatia today, in 170 households. There were 660 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 34 cities and 29 other places, mostly in Zagreb (80), Gracac in Knin area (30), Karlovac (25), Rijeka (20), and in Vojisnica in Duga Resa area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
