Garbin families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Solta. According to some sources they are from the Island of Hvar, or Italy France, and are rarely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and Pula.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Garbin live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are only located in in 8 Croatian cities and 7 other places, mostly in Split (45), Rovinj (10), Gornje Selo on the Island of Solta (10), Dubrovnik (<10), and in Karojba in Pazin area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1538 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
