Gagić families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Benkovac , whereas often Croats (from Pozega area ), very rarely Bosniaks (from Bosnian Posavina ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Benkovac and Zadar. In Zelengrad in Obrovac every seventh inhabitant had the family name Gagić.
Prevalence
About 470 people with faimily name Gagić live in Croatia today, in 250 households. There were 680 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 36 cities and 48 other places, mostly in Rijeka (40), Zagreb (35), Zakorenje in Pozega area (25), Zadar (20), and in Zelengrad (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1926 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
