Gabelić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Hvar. In Vrboska on the Island of Hvar every sixth inhabitant had the family name Gabelić.
Prevalence
About 120 people with faimily name Gabelić live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 140 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 8 cities and 10 other places, mostly in Vrboska on the Island of Hvar (50), Split (20), Zagreb (15), Hvar on the Island of Hvar (10), and in Slatina (10).

Family name Gabelić (including: Gabelich , Gabelic ) is present in 11 countries on four continents. "Gabelich " is used by some 100 people in Mexico , about 70 in Argentina , and small number of people in Australia , small number of people in the United States.
