Franjević families are Croats and they are mostly from Cazma area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Jastrebarsko. In Prhoć in Jastrebarsko every eighth inhabitant had the family name Franjević.
Prevalence
About 140 people with faimily name Franjević live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in 6 Croatian counties, in 10 cities and 19 other places, mostly in Zagreb (45), Bjelovar (15), Cazma (10), Stankovo (10), and in Kozice (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
