Franičević families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and on the Island of Hvar. In Sućuraj on the Island of Hvar every ninth inhabitant had the family name Franičević.
Prevalence
About 210 people with faimily name Franičević live in Croatia today, in 90 households. There were 210 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Split (40), Sucuraj on the Island of Hvar (35), Zagreb (20), Opuzen (20), and in Stari Grad on the Island of Hvar (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
