In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sisak and in Hrvatska Kostajnica area. In Stubalj in Hrvatska Kostajnica area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Filar.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Filar live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 70 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in 6 Croatian counties, in 7 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Stubalj in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (30), Zagreb (25), Bobovac in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (10), Sisak (<10), and in Gusce (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
