Fabijan families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area (according to some sources Zemunika Donjeg), rarely Hungarians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and in Zadar area. In Jagnjić Dol in Samobor area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Fabijan.
Prevalence
About 300 people with faimily name Fabijan live in Croatia today, in 140 households. There were 380 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 31 other places, mostly in Zemunik Donji in Zadar area (70), Vinkovci (35), Borut in Pazin area (20), Zadar (20), and in Jagnjic Dol in Samobor area (20).

Family name Fabijan (including: Fabiyan , Phabiyan ) is present in 20 countries worldwide.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
