Erdelji families are often Croats and they are mostly from Prelog area , rarely Rusyns (from Vukovar ) and Hungarians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Prelog. In Vukosavljevica in Virovitica area every sixtieth inhabitant had the family name Erdelji.
Prevalence
About 150 people with faimily name Erdelji live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 220 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 27 other places, mostly in Zagreb (35), Sveta Marija in Prelog area (30), Novi Bezdan in Beli Manastir area (15), Spisic Bukovica in Virovitica area (15), and in Kutina (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
