Erak families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Ploce. According to some sources they are from Sibenik area, very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 410 people with faimily name Erak live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 330 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Sibenik (90), Zagreb (90), Pirovac in Vodice area (45), Ploce (40), and in Split (25).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over thirty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
