Dželalija families are Croats and they are mostly from Drnis area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Drnis and in Drnis area. In Ključ in Drnis every fifth inhabitant had the family name Dželalija.
Prevalence
About 360 people with faimily name Dželalija live in Croatia today, in 150 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 20 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Split (90), Sibenik (50), Unesic in Drnis area (45), Knin (20), and in Kastel Stari (15).
Outside Croatia
Family name Dželalija (including: Dzelalija , Delalija and Djelalija ) is present in 6 countries on four continents.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1924 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
