In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Obrovac area. In Klašnjica in Obrovac area every third inhabitant had the family name Dotlić.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Dotlić live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 16 other places, mostly in Karlovac (15), Zagreb (10), Topusko in Glina area (10), Rijeka (<10), and in Imsovac in Daruvar area (<10).
Outside Croatia
At least three families with this surname emigrated from Croatia to: France (1), Germany (1), and to the United States (1). Family name Dotlić (including: Dotlic , Dotlich ) is present in 10 countries on four continents. "Dotlich " is used by some 200 people in the United States.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
