Dodig families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina , rarely Serbs from Benkovac. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area) and in Western Bosnia (Tomislavgrad area). In Mesihovina in Western Bosnia every tenth inhabitant had the family name Dodig.
Prevalence
About 1200 people with faimily name Dodig live in Croatia today, in 520 households. There were 580 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 44 cities and 93 other places, mostly in Zagreb (220), Metkovic (145), Split (130), Kosute in Sinj area (65), and in Veliki Prolog (55).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1930 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
