Djak families are Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Novi Travnik area) and in Middle Bosnia (Travnik area). In Gornje Pećine in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Djak.
Prevalence
About 220 people with faimily name Djak live in Croatia today, in 90 households. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 35 other places, mostly in Knin (15), Tusilovic (15), Novi Vinodolski (10), Spisic Bukovica in Virovitica area (10), and in Zagreb (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
