Dešković families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. According to some sources they are from Omis area (Katuni). According to some sources the family name originates from Katuna (Poljicka Republika), rarely Italians. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Split. In Dragozetići on the Island of Cres every sixth inhabitant had the family name Dešković.
Prevalence
About 160 people with faimily name Dešković live in Croatia today, in 70 households. There were 170 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are only located in in 10 Croatian cities and 14 other places, mostly in Zagreb (35), Jelsa on the Island of Hvar (20), Split (20), and in Lovran (15) and Moscenicka Draga (15) in Opatija area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
