Deak families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Samobor area , rarely Hungarians (from Vinkovci area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Metkovic. In Pavlovec Zabočki in Zabok every fifth inhabitant had the family name Deak.
Prevalence
About 460 people with faimily name Deak live in Croatia today, in 200 households. There were 270 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 70 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 24 cities and 56 other places, mostly in Zagreb (55), Opuzen (45), Pavlovec Zabocki (45), Vrsar in Rovinj area (20), and in Bizovac in Valpovo area (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
