Curić families are Croats and they are mostly from Opuzen area. According to some sources they are from the Popovo valley in Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and in Nova Gradiska area. In Opatovac in Nova Gradiska area every third inhabitant had the family name Curić.
Prevalence
About 590 people with faimily name Curić live in Croatia today, in 240 households. There were 370 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 34 cities and 63 other places, mostly in Opatovac in Nova Gradiska area (85), Opuzen (80), Dubrovnik (75), Zagreb (65), and in Stitar (30).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
