Cukon families are Croats and they are mostly from Pula area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Pula and in Pula area. In places Veliki Vareški and Medulin in Pula area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Cukon.
Prevalence
About 260 people with faimily name Cukon live in Croatia today, in 120 households. There were 360 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Pula (115), in Medulin (65) and Pomer (30) in Pula area, Zagreb (20), and in Veliki Vareski in Pula area (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
