Cota families are Croats and they are mostly from Bosnian Krajina. According to some sources they are from Dalmatia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosnian Krajina (Mrkonjic Grad area) and in Knin area. In Suknovci in Knin area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Cota.
