In Croatia, Ceraj families are Croats (from Pregrada area ), barely Slovenes. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Klanjec area. In Ivanić Miljanski in Klanjec area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Ceraj.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Ceraj live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in threee Croatian counties, two cities and 7 other places, mostly in Zagreb (45), Zapresic (<10), in Hum Kosnicki (<10) and Desinic (<10) in Pregrada area, and in Kuzminec Miljanski in Klanjec area (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
