Bućan families can be both Croats (the family name originates from Solin ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in Glina area. In Prkos Lasinjski in Jastrebarsko area every third inhabitant had the family name Bućan.
Prevalence
About 390 people with faimily name Bućan live in Croatia today, in 190 households. There were 410 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 29 cities and 33 other places, mostly in Mravince (85), Zagreb (70), Split (40), Karlovac (20), and in Pravutina in Ozalj area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
