Buljan families are Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area. According to some sources they are from Donjih Vinjana (Imotski). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj and in Sinj area. In Donji Bitelić in Sinj area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Buljan.
Prevalence
About 2000 people with faimily name Buljan live in Croatia today, in 760 households. There were 950 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 54 cities and 117 other places, mostly in Zagreb (360), Split (310), Sinj (200), Donji Bitelic in Sinj area (170), and in Osijek (80).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
