Bulj families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Sinj , less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj and Split. In Suhač in Sinj every eighth inhabitant had the family name Bulj.
Prevalence
About 210 people with faimily name Bulj live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 180 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 20 percent. They are located in 10 Croatian counties, in 14 cities and 6 other places, mostly in Suhac (65), Split (40), Sinj (25), Zagreb (15), and in Solin (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
