Bulat families are often Croats and they are mostly from Drnis area and according to some sources and from Herzegovina (oko rijeke Bune), less frequently Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sibenik and in Drnis area. In Mirlović Zagora in Drnis area every sixth inhabitant had the family name Bulat.

About 670 people with faimily name Bulat live in Croatia today, in 280 households. There were 650 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number remains constant.
They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 43 cities and 53 other places, mostly in Sibenik (110), Zagreb (100), Split (70), Mirlovic Zagora in Drnis area (30), and in Sisak (25).
