Bukva families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Nin , often Serbs, very rarely Bosniaks. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and Bjelovar. In Pediše in Romania (Bosnia) every second inhabitant had the family name Bukva.
Prevalence
About 100 people with faimily name Bukva live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 130 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 16 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Vrsi (20), Zadar (10), Zagreb (10), Galovac (10), and in Rijeka (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
