Bubalo families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from Herzegovina (Turcinovici near Siroki Brijeg), rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Bosanian Posavina (Derventa area) and in Herzegovina (Ljubuski area). In places Turčinovići and Bijača in Herzegovina every fourth inhabitant had the family name Bubalo.
Prevalence
About 960 people with faimily name Bubalo live in Croatia today, in 400 households. There were 460 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 48 cities and 64 other places, mostly in Zagreb (265), Donji Prolozac in Imotski area (100), Slavonski Brod (80), Split (65), and in Metkovic (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1917 in source List of Dignitaries, Officials and Public Servants of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
