Brčić families are Croats and they are mostly from Benkovac area. According to some sources they are from Zrnovo on the Island of Korcula and Livno area (Bosnia/Herzegovina). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and in Western Bosnia (Livno area). In Budak in Benkovac area every fourth inhabitant had the family name Brčić.
Prevalence
About 1600 people with faimily name Brčić live in Croatia today, in 630 households. There were 1200 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 53 cities and 111 other places, mostly in Zagreb (315), Budak in Benkovac area (100), Split (95), Zadar (65), and in Vrbanja in Zupanja area (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned about one hundred times, the first time 1669 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
