Brnica families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Koprivnica area , whereas often Croats (from Koprivnica ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Koprivnica and in Koprivnica area. In Veliki Poganac in Koprivnica area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Brnica.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Brnica live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 40 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located and 10 other Croatian places, mostly in Veliki Poganac in Koprivnica area (20), Koprivnica (15), Zagreb (<10), Ribnjak in Koprivnica area (<10), and in Bjelovar (<10).

Family name Brnica is present in 9 countries on three continents. The family name "Brnica " is used by few people in the United States. "Bernica " is used by some 90 people in the United States , about 60 in Indonesia , and small number of people in Albania.
