Brković families are frequently Croats and they are mostly from Drnis area , less frequently Bosniaks (from east Herzegovina) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Dubrovnik and in Drnis area. In Mekavci in East Herzegovina nearly every inhabitant had the family name Brković.
Prevalence
About 810 people with faimily name Brković live in Croatia today, in 330 households. There were 500 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 60 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 48 cities and 93 other places, mostly in Dubrovnik (125), Zagreb (75), Banjevci in Benkovac area (60), Split (50), and in Zadar (50).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
