Bratanić families are Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Doboj, Bosnia (Doboj area) and in Zagreb.
Prevalence
About 210 people with faimily name Bratanić live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 110 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in 8 Croatian counties, in 12 cities and 22 other places, mostly in Zagreb (35), Vrbanj on the Island of Hvar (25), Selnica Scitarjevska (15), Vrboska on the Island of Hvar (10), and in Split (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
