Brala families are Croats and they are mostly from Zadar area. According to some sources they are from Livno area or from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zadar and in Zadar area. In Posedarje in Zadar area every eighth inhabitant had the family name Brala.
Prevalence
About 350 people with faimily name Brala live in Croatia today, in 160 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 80 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 20 cities and 15 other places, mostly in Posedarje in Zadar area (155), Zagreb (45), Zadar (40), Rijeka (15), and in Tompojevci in Ilok area (10).

Family name Brala (including: Bralla , Berala ) is present in 17 countries worldwide. The family name "Brala " is used by some 90 people in Poland , small number in the United States , and small number of people in Albania. "Bralla " is used by some 50 people in Italy , small number in the United States , and small number of people in Switzerland.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 1614 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
