In Croatia, Brajan families are generally Croats (from Opatija ), very rarely Italians (from Buje area ), and barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Rijeka and Opatija. In Jurdani in Opatija area every ninth inhabitant had the family name Brajan.
Prevalence
About 50 people with faimily name Brajan live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 40 percent. They are located in four Croatian counties, in 6 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Opatija (10), Zagreb (<10), Rijeka (<10), Jurdani in Opatija area (<10), and in Kastav (<5).
