Božić families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Cazinske krajine. According to some sources they are from Unesica, Livna, Tomislavgrad (Bosnia) and from Cetinske krajine, rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Split. In Čvrljevo in Drnis area every third inhabitant had the family name Božić.
Prevalence
About 7600 people with faimily name Božić live in Croatia today, in 3200 households. There were 5700 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are located in all Croatian counties, in 111 cities and 682 other places, mostly in Zagreb (1155), Split (390), Rijeka (285), Vinkovci (225), and in Pula (160).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over a hundred times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
