Bošković families are often Croats and they are mostly from middle Bosnia , less frequently Serbs and Montenegrins (Bijelo Polje, Montenegro). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Middle Bosnia (Kresevo area) and in Middle Bosnia (Bugojno area). In Crnići in Middle Bosnia every fourth inhabitant had the family name Bošković.
Prevalence
About 1600 people with faimily name Bošković live in Croatia today, in 670 households. There were 800 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 65 cities and 149 other places, mostly in Zagreb (245), Split (90), Dubrovnik (70), Djakovo (70), and in Selca on the Island of Brac (65).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1729 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
