Botica families are Croats and they are mostly from Sinj area. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sinj area and on the Island of Korcula. In Račišće on the Island of Korcula every third inhabitant had the family name Botica.
Prevalence
About 900 people with faimily name Botica live in Croatia today, in 380 households. There were 660 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 40 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 30 cities and 49 other places, mostly in Split (135), Racisce on the Island of Korcula (125), Grab in Sinj area (85), Korcula on the Island of Korcula (75), and in Zagreb (70).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
