Borovac families are usually Croats and they are mostly from Gospic , rarely Serbs. According to some sources they are from Vrgorac and from middle Bosnia. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Gospic and Zagreb. In Mala Plana in Gospic every fourth inhabitant had the family name Borovac.
Prevalence
About 720 people with faimily name Borovac live in Croatia today, in 320 households. There were 800 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 10 percent. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 46 cities and 93 other places, mostly in Zagreb (75), Split (50), Rijeka (50), Gospic (45), and in Metkovic (40).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over twenty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
