In Croatia, Bonković families are Croats (from the Island of Hvar ), barely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born on the Island of Hvar and in Split.
Prevalence
About 70 people with faimily name Bonković live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 50 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 30 percent. They are only located in in 7 Croatian cities and threee other places, mostly in Split (35), in Hvar (20) and Gdinj (<10) on the Island of Hvar, Loviste on the Peljesac peninsula (<10), and in Solin (<5).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1928 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
