Bogut families are Croats and they are mostly from north Herzegovina. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Slunj and in North Herzegovina (Jablanica area). In Donje Taborište in Slunj every sixth inhabitant had the family name Bogut.
Prevalence
About 190 people with faimily name Bogut live in Croatia today, in 80 households. There were 80 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number more than doubled. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 22 cities and 18 other places, mostly in Zagreb (40), Donje Taboriste (20), Imotski (15), Karlovac (10), and in Makarska (10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over five times, the first time 2007 in source Encyclopaedia of Croatian Surnames.
