Boban families are almost entirely Croats and they are mostly from north Herzegovina. According to some sources they are from Klisa area, very rarely Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Split and in North Herzegovina (Jablanica area). In Sovići in North Herzegovina every ninth inhabitant had the family name Boban.
Prevalence
About 1400 people with faimily name Boban live in Croatia today, in 570 households. There were 710 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number doubled. They are located in almost all Croatian counties, in 50 cities and 80 other places, mostly in Split (335), Zagreb (235), Solin (210), and in Prugovo (80) and Klis (75) in Solin area.
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1906 in source Yearbook and Directory of Literary Society of St. Jerome 1906.
