Bjeloš families can be both Croats (the family name originates from Dubrovnik area ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Jastrebarsko area and in Zagreb. In Sjeničak Lasinjski in Jastrebarsko area every seventh inhabitant had the family name Bjeloš.
Prevalence
About 90 people with faimily name Bjeloš live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 240 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 11 cities and 12 other places, mostly in Zagreb (20), Karlovac (15), Vodovadja in Dubrovnik area (15), Sjenicak Lasinjski in Jastrebarsko area (<10), and in Sesvete (<10).
Outside Croatia
Family name Bjeloš (including: Bjelos , Bjellos and Bielos ) is present in four countries on three continents. "Bjellos " is used by small number of people in the United States.
