Bjelan families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Knin area , whereas often Croats (Slavonski Brod). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Knin area and in Zagreb. In Orlić in Knin area every tenth inhabitant had the family name Bjelan.
Prevalence
About 80 people with faimily name Bjelan live in Croatia today, in 50 households. There were 190 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased significantly. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 11 other places, mostly in Orlic in Knin area (15), Zagreb (10), Trnjani in Slavonski Brod area (<10), Vrpolje in Djakovo area (<10), and in Split (<5).
