Bibić families are mainly Croats and they are mostly from the Island of Hvar. According to some sources they are from Zagorje or Drnis area, whereas often Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Drnis and on the Island of Hvar. In Vagani in Bosnian Krajina every third inhabitant had the family name Bibić.
Prevalence
About 380 people with faimily name Bibić live in Croatia today, in 180 households. There were 470 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 20 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 28 cities and 29 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Hvar on the Island of Hvar (50), Split (45), Zadar (25), and in Oraovac in Obrovac area (20).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over ten times, the first time 1729 in source Catholic Church Parish Records.
