Beč families are podjednako Croats (the family name originates from Cakovec ) and Serbs. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Hrvatska Kostajnica area and in Cakovec. In Vršani in Bosnian Krajina every sixth inhabitant had the family name Beč.
Prevalence
About 60 people with faimily name Beč live in Croatia today, in 30 households. There were 90 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number decreased by 30 percent. They are located in 9 Croatian counties, in 8 cities and 6 other places, mostly in Cakovec (10), Petrovci in Vukovar area (10), Crkveni Bok in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (<10), Zagreb (<10), and in Slavonski Brod (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over fifty times, the first time 1749 in source 18th Century Census.
