Beronja families are mainly Serbs and they are mostly from Cazinska Krajina Region (Bosnia), whereas often Croats (from Pleternica area ). In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Sisak and Slavonski Brod. In Veliki Radić in Cazins Region (Bosnia) every fourth inhabitant had the family name Beronja.
Prevalence
About 110 people with faimily name Beronja live in Croatia today, in 60 households. There were 100 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 0 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 19 cities and 8 other places, mostly in Zagreb (15), Split (10), Brodski Stupnik in Pleternica area (10), Dvor in Hrvatska Kostajnica area (10), and in Osijek (<10).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned few times, the first time 1923 in source Emigration Commission Zagreb.
