Berger families are predominantly Croats and they are mostly from Grubisno Polje. According to some sources the family name originates Czechia, rarely Czechs, also from Grubisno Polje. In the past century, relatively most of Croatian residents bearing this family name were born in Zagreb and Grubisno Polje. In Donja Rašenica in Grubisno Polje every tenth inhabitant had the family name Berger.
Prevalence
About 270 people with faimily name Berger live in Croatia today, in 110 households. There were 250 of them in the middle of the past century, and their number increased by 10 percent. They are located in the most of Croatian counties, in 25 cities and 24 other places, mostly in Zagreb (50), Bjelovar (20), Pozega (20), Osijek (15), and in Ivanja Reka (15).
In the sources analysed in the project Acta Croatica so far, the name is mentioned over sixty times, the first time 1902 in source Hartmann's General List of Apartments in Zagreb.
